Professional School Counseling Certificate
Any current MA in clinical mental health counseling student or graduate of a CACREP accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program who would like to apply for licensure as a school counselor from the Ohio Department of Education may apply to the Graduate Certificate Program. The graduate certificate School Counseling will provide students with the necessary coursework to seek the pupil services licensure in the state of Ohio. All students will be required to complete a 600-hour internship in addition to the required school counseling courses.

The state department of education is responsible is responsible for granting professional licensure, not the counselor education program. Requirements for licensure and/or advanced practice certification eligibility vary from state to state. Please reference the听Professional Licensure Information page听for state details. For students who wish to practice in a state other than Ohio, please contact the department of education from that state.
Application Instructions
Individuals apply to the certificate program through the College of Graduate Studies. Students initiate the regular application process and the select, 鈥済raduate certificates鈥 when prompted to do so.听To apply, students must have completed a CACREP-accredited counseling master鈥檚 degree in a different concentration (e.g., Clinical Mental Health Counseling). Students are required to submit all transcripts from post-secondary learning (undergraduate, graduate), three letters of recommendation, and a personal statement.
