Working as a Tutor

Tutors in the Learning Enhancement Center are selected from an extensive screening聽process which includes:

3 references (2 must be from UT, the other can be a professional from the community)
assessment of subject knowledge,聽
maintaining a minimum of a 3.2 overall GPA, and聽聽
receiving an B or better in the subject(s) they are tutoring.聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽

Our tutors are involved in all aspects of campus life, as well as, being high academic聽achievers.

Our tutors complete approximately 10 hours of training each year. The LEC聽continually strives to provide the best customer service possible.

Please review carefully the qualifications listed below. If you do not聽meet these qualifications 鈥� please do not apply at this time.

At least sophomore standing
If a transfer student, at least one successful semester at UT.
An overall GPA of 3.2 or above.
A grade of 鈥淏鈥� or better in course(s) you would like to tutor.
Content competency required in subjects you tutor (references聽from faculty required).

Good interpersonal and communications skills
Ability to guide students in understanding difficult聽concepts (this requires knowing how to ask questions to help students聽discover the answers).
Commitment to facilitating learning, not teaching
Ability to work with a diverse population
Dependability and reliability
Maturity and professionalism
