How many positions does the fellowship offer?

The program offers 2 positions every year for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship; applications are reviewed through the ERAS program and we participate in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).


Does the program sponsor visas for International Medical Graduates?

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· College of Medicine sponsors J-1 and H1-B Visas when required.


What kind of pathology does a fellow see? 

  • Pneumonia - CAP, HAP, VAP
  • Complicated UTI
  • Soft tissue infections
  • Diabetic foot and osteomyelitis
  • Endocarditis - bacterial and fungal
  • Infections in transplant and cancer patients
  • Complicated orthopedic infections
  • Postoperative intra-abdominal infections
  • Infections in pregnant women
  • Complications of HIV/AIDS
  • Meningitis, ventriculitis and brain abscess
  • Endophthalmitis
  • Disseminated Cryptococcus, Histoplasma, Blastomyces
  • Tuberculosis
  • Nocardiosis
  • Aspergillosis

Do we have a night float system?

We do not have a night float system. Fellows take calls from home and typically only come back to the hospital for emergencies. 


What does a typical Yearly schedule look like?

Here is a recent schedule:

  • First year: 6 months inpatient services, 3 months scholarship, quality improvement and research, 1 microbiology, 1 elective 
  • Second year: 6 months inpatient services, 3 months scholarship, quality improvement and research, 1 elective, 1 transplant inpatient away rotation (Cleveland Clinic or Henry Ford)
